Professional drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles have a responsibility to protect themselves, their cargo, and all other road users in the area. In order to avoid potentially life-threatening consequences, drivers must take an active role in the process of avoiding traffic accidents.

Course overview
In this training course, we will detail the principles of defensive driving and explain the ways that professional drivers can use these principles to keep themselves, and all road users, safe.

We also cover the unique challenges that commercial vehicle drivers face while operating alongside hazardous drivers, road conditions, and vehicular emergencies.

Understand the effects of vehicle speed and weight on stopping distance

Space Management

Recognize the importance of proper space management while operating a CMV

Distracted Drivers

Identify signs of distracted drivers and understand how to distance your vehicle from them

Visual Search

Visually search the road for potential hazards and scan the front, back, and sides of your vehicle

Communicate Intentions

Effectively communicate your intentions to other road users while driving
